I am available before and after school (usually 7:30-8:00 am and 3:00-3:30 pm). Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 2005.\u00a0 Edgenuity Health will be used as our primary resource.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Optional or Supplemental books\/materials<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Additional material and supplemental resources will be provided via handouts and other media as needed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Description<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>This course is designed to increase student awareness of their health; of what distinguishes healthy behavior from high-risk behavior, and the ways in which health interacts with the community and environment. This course will encourage the student, to adopt positive health related behavior through skill building that includes decision-making, role modeling, critical analysis, and goal setting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Objectives<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>The student will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Promote personal health and prevent disease.<\/li>\n<li>Practice positive mental and emotional skill building strategies, which will increase responsible behavior to family members and others.<\/li>\n<li>Establish personal goals and create self-designed programs that promote health<br \/>\nbehaviors.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the difference between environment and genetics in an individual\u2019s<br \/>\ngrowth and development.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate and apply their knowledge of the infectious cycle and connect this<br \/>\nknowledge to public health efforts (community agencies) to prevent disease.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize the connection between low self-esteem, drug and alcohol abuse and teen<br \/>\npregnancy.<\/li>\n<li>Assess individual nutritional habits and identify components of a balanced and healthy diet.<\/li>\n<li>Understand and demonstrate the relationship between advertising techniques and<br \/>\nnegative health choices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING POLICY<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Attendance and Tardy Policy<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Because there is a direct relationship between student attendance and success in school, each day is important for the attending student. Ganesha High School\u2019s policy on attendance as stated in our student handbook will be followed and enforced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assignment Policy and Assignment Grading Weight<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Class work<\/strong>: Daily class work will be assigned and turned in after completion of the lesson\/activity. The student will be responsible in keeping a journal discussing his\/her accomplishments in and out of class. It is the student\u2019s responsibility to inform the instructor of any long-term absences. Weight: 35% of grade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Homework<\/strong>: Periodically, homework will be assigned in the form of worksheets, papers, projects, etc. All homework will be turned-in during the next class meeting unless specified by the teacher. Weight: 25% of grade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tests and Quizzes<\/strong>: After each section (see Course Content, below), quizzes and tests will be administered. Weight: 25% of grade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Participation<\/strong>: Weight: 15% of grade.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make-up Work<\/strong>: Make-up work will be allowed for up to one week after the return of a student due to an absence.
